Patient Safety Week
4th Dec 2014, Thursday – Prince Court Medical Centre (PCMC) once again marked another milestone by collaborating with Ministry of Health Malaysia (MoH) in organising a Patient Safety Awareness Week. The event took place from 1st until 7th December 2014 at Black Carpet area, PCMC and was later extended by another week until 14 Dec, 2014.
In PCMC, safety is always the number one concern of patients requiring medical treatment in a hospital. This coincided with the Ministy of Health’s (MoH) 13 Malaysian Patient Safety Goals initiatives which was implemented in 2013 – with a mission to improve patient safety in both public and private hospitals, which PCMC believe is a way forward to raising healthcare standards.
This Patient Safety Awareness Week objective is to educate patients, staff and the community on the safety measures in place at PCMC to ensure their safety when seeking medical care. The theme ‘United in Safety’ was chosen to show that PCMC is committed to implement both national and international patient safety solutions and monitor our systems to give assurance to our patients. It is very important for our staff to understand the importance of these patient safety goals, the impact and consequences to patients and their families if procedures are not followed. We hope this campaign will engage more patients to be more involved with their care and recovery by asking questions when they feel something is not right.
The launch was made more meaningful with interesting talks by Dr T. Mahadevan, PCMC Board of Director and Chief Executive Officer Association of Private Hospitals of Malaysia (APHM); Dr. Nor’Aishah Abu Bakar, Public Health Physician, Head of Patient Safety Unit, MoH and Dr Suraya Amir Hussin, Senior Principal Assistant Director Quality in Medical Care Section, MoH.
