Neuro Diagnostic Lab

Overview

Our neuro diagnostic lab serves as a vital resource not only for general practitioners but also for specialists in various medical fields such as orthopaedics, spine surgery, ophthalmology, paediatrics and ENT surgery.

Discovering Neurological Insights

Neurodiagnostic examinations play a crucial role in unravelling the mysteries of brain activity and the complex nervous system. Through a range of specialised tests, our neuro diagnostic lab aims to identify and understand illnesses that affect both the central nervous system (including the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves) and the peripheral nervous system to provide insights for effective treatment.

Our neuro diagnostic lab serves as a vital resource not only for general practitioners but also for specialists in various medical fields such as orthopaedics, spine surgery, ophthalmology, paediatrics and ENT surgery.  By collaborating with these healthcare professionals, we strive to provide a diverse range of conditions and facilitate accurate diagnoses and appropriate treatment plans.

Commonly referred problems to our neuro diagnostic lab encompass a wide spectrum of neurological disorders. Nerve compression (pinched nerve) in the neck or back

  • Generalised numbness, weakness, tingling, or pain (neuropathy)
  • Muscle diseases characterised by weakness, wasting, and cramping
  • Brain and spinal cord disorders like stroke, seizures, changes in mental status, multiple sclerosis, tumours, trauma
  • Brainstem injury or disease

Comprehensive Neurodiagnostic Services at Prince Court Medical Centre

  • Electroencephalography (EEG)
    • This non-invasive test records brain wave function and aids in the diagnosis of seizures and other related neurological disorders.

  • EEG Video Telemetry (EEG VT)
    • For comprehensive monitoring, patients are admitted to the hospital, where we simultaneously observe their brain activity through EEG and video monitoring. This enables the documentation of seizure activity over an extended period while ensuring the safety and well-being of the patient.

  • Nerve Conduction Study
    • By measuring the speed of electrical impulse conduction through a nerve, this test provides valuable insights into nerve health and functioning.

  • Electromyography (EMG)
    • This test measures the electrical activity in muscles and is commonly performed in conjunction with Nerve Conduction Study. These procedures help detect and assess the presence, location, and extent of diseases affecting the nerves and muscles, which can manifest as symptoms like tingling, numbness, and pain.

  • Evoked Potentials
    • Through various modalities such as Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potential (BAEP), Visual Evoked Potential (VEP), and Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (SSEP), we measure the time it takes for impulses to travel from points of stimulation to the brain. These tests are instrumental in detecting and determining the severity of conditions such as multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury or disease, and brainstem injury or disease.

  • Transcranial Doppler Ultrasound (TCD)
    • Our non-invasive and safe technique employs pulsed Doppler transducers to assess intracerebral blood flow, providing valuable insights into blood circulation in the brain.

  • Carotid Doppler Ultrasound
    • This technique evaluates blood flow in the arteries of the neck, enabling early detection of potential stroke-causing factors.
  • Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
    • Transcranial magnetic stimulation is a procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. It can treat depression, obsessive - compulsive disorder and other brain-related conditions.
